Pauly Shore took to Twitter to celebrate the wins of his two former co-stars, Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan (Variety). The three were originally part of the 1992 film Encino Man where Shore plays a high schooler who befriends a caveman, Fraser, that was defrosted into the present– 1992. Quan played a minor side character.
During the opening monologue for the awards show, the host Jimmy Kimmel referred to the film and Shore by stating, “What an incredible night it must be for the two of you [Fraser and Quan], and what a very difficult night for Pauly Shore. Maybe it’s time to reboot ‘Bio-Dome.’” As a result, Shore responded the next day through Twitter with, “I don’t know if you guys saw the @TheAcademyAwards last night, but @jimmykimmel poked fun at me in the monologue. I loved it. But what I REALLY loved is that my old buddies from back in the day, Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan, took home the Oscars! Never quit your dreams.”
Quan was the first of the actors to win that night. His win for Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once was historic because he became the first Asian man to win the award. He began his acceptance speech with tears as he exclaimed, “Mom, I just won an Oscar!” Throughout his speech, he recognized the difficult journey it took for him to get to that stage.
Fraser’s win for Best Actor for his performance in The Whale was also significant because it was seen as his comeback to Hollywood. He stated, “I started in this business 30 years ago, things didn’t come easy to me… there was a facility that I didn’t appreciate at the time until it stopped. I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgment.”
