The most famous volcanic eruption in history is coming to the big screen. Paul W. S. Anderson his helming the action-adventure Pompeii starring Kit Harington, currently the heart throb on TV’s fantasy series Game Of Thrones.
Paul W. S. Anderson, the English director and husband of Milla Jovovich who made his mark with Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon, is wearing multiple hats for Pompeii. The script is a collaborative effort with Anderson, Lee and Janet Scott Batchler (Batman Forever), Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) and Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). Anderson is also produced and directed the project.
Pompeii tells the story of a Roman gladiator (Harington) who has been enslaved. He falls in love with his master’s daughter, played by Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), whose hand has been promised to an evil Roman senator. When the volcano starts to erupt Harington must try to rescue not only the woman he loves, but his best friend who is a gladiator fighting in the matches of the day. Kiefer Sutherland (24), Jared Harris (Mad Men), Jessica Lucas (Evil Dead) and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), also star.
Jeremy Balt and Don Carmody are also producing with Impact Pictures and Constantin Films. Pompeii is scheduled for a February 21, 2014 release.
