It has been a decade since auteur laureate Paul Thomas Anderson has called upon the ineffable talents of Daniel Day-Lewis. Their last cinematic endeavor (There Will Be Blood) pulled in seven Oscar nominations and two wins, one of which was awarded to Day-Lewis for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The film was an indisputable classic and an exceptional paragon of filmmaking.
The powerhouse now reunites with a project that’s somewhat of a mystery at the moment. Not even the film’s title has been released, however photos from production suggest the possibility of The Phantom Thread. What we do know for sure is that it follows a dressmaker commissioned to design for the royal family and other elite socialites in London’s 1950’s fashion scene.
The actors first slated to join Lewis are Lesley Manville (Maleficent), Richard Graham, and Vicky Krieps (Hanna). Anderson has also enlisted the help of another former collaborator (apart from Day-Lewis), Jonny Greenwood, the guitarist and keyboardist of Radiohead. Greenwood will fill his usual role as composer for the film. While this isn’t much information to go off, it’s safe in assuming that with Anderson and Day-Lewis’ combined track record this film should be a hit. Filming has begun, but a release date has yet to be announced.
