Daniel Day-Lewis may be eyeing a reunion with his There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson on an upcoming movie centered on the fashion industry in the 1950s. Nothing is confirmed but Variety, who first reported the story, asserts plans may be moving forward for a re-teaming of the three-time Academy Award winning actor and the Boogie Nights auteur.
The upcoming project doesn’t have a title but reportedly Anderson is working on the screenplay and may be in the process of looking for young actress of Eastern European backgrounds to possibly cast alongside Day-Lewis. While plot information isn’t known at this time nor an idea of Day-Lewis’ character, the film seemingly will focus on New York’s fashion industry in the 1950s; Day-Lewis may have been attached in some forms to this project for a while now. Megan Ellison’s AnnaPurna Pictures will produce and finance the film – following partnerships on Anderson’s last two films – The Master and Inherent Vice.
The last time Day-Lewis and Anderson worked together, it worked out quite well ending with Day-Lewis receiving his second Academy Award for There Will Be Blood. Since then, the famously method actor appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which earned him a third Academy Award; that 2012 bio was the actor’s most recent appearance on screen. Since picking up his six Oscar nomination for penning Inherent Vice (2014), Anderson directed the documentary Junun and has worked on various music-related projects with the likes of Radiohead and Joanna Newsom.
