Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are set to attend the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF), where they will introduce Irish filmmaker John Carney’s upcoming musical comedy, Power Ballad.
The Lionsgate film follows Rick (Rudd), a washed-up wedding singer who crosses paths with fading boy-band star Danny (Jonas) during a live performance. After bonding during a late-night jam session, Danny reworks one of Rick’s songs into a hit but Rick doesn’t get the recognition he believes he deserves.
Co-written by Carney and Peter McDonald, Power Ballad marks another of Carney’s music-driven films. The filmmaker most recently directed Flora and Son (2023), starring Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and is also behind the critically acclaimed film Once, Begin Again and Sing Street.
Speaking about the festival, Carney said:
I’m delighted to have our film, Power Ballad, close this year’s festival. It’s apt to go out, after so many great films, with a bang of music and fun. Who wouldn’t want to watch Paul Rudd throw Nick Jonas off a balcony? (Seriously, that happens in our movie.)
McDonald also appears in the film, alongside Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor. Producers include Anthony Bregman, John Carney, Peter Cron, Rebecca O’Flanagan and Robert Walpole.
Power Ballad is set to premiere at the 2026 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival ahead of its theatrical release on June 5.
