The premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness happened tonight. Earlier this week, Patrick Stewart made his red carpet appearance. The Mouse House announced restarting the X-Men franchise after acquiring Fox back in 2019; Disney was unable to produce X-Men films because Fox owned the rights. X-Men has made its return to the Marvel Universe. Disney announced X-Men will be heading to Disney+ by 2023.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gives Stewart the spotlight in his return to Charles Xavier. Stewart’s voice as Professor Xavier could be heard in a teaser trailer but wasn’t confirmed officially until his cameo on the red carpet. The actor shared his thoughts about returning as Professor Xavier:
“Professor X would be extraordinarily cautious and watchful, and perhaps feel a little insecure. Because there is something that is potentially dangerous about this man. I think that would put Professor Xavier on guard. I actually didn’t recognize my voice. It sounded different. Whether I had a cold or something at the time, I don’t know I was astonished – and all they saw was the back of my shoulder and I think my earlobe, nothing else-that there would have been so many connections made. But it pleased me to see the reaction.”
Stewart has played the mind-reading Professor X since the first X-Men film back in 2000. See Doctor Strange in the Multiverse in theaters now!
