Patrick Stewart Comments on ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Trailer And The Return of Charles Xavier

The release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is rapidly approaching and fans recently got a new look at the film during the Super Bowl last Sunday. The trailer teased huge multiversal stakes, a possible rivalry between Strange and Scarlet Witch, and a mysterious organization called the Illuminati, led by none other than Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier. Stewart played the role of Xavier for 17 years, first appearing in X-Men (2000) and last appearing in Logan (2017).

While the teaser doesn’t show Stewart’s face, his voice is instantly recognizable. Although, Stewart has officially commented on the trailer reveal and maintains that it is not him.

“You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago,” Stewart said in an interview with ComicBook.com, “So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”

So while Stewart claims he is not in the film, it may well be another situation of an actor fighting to keep their casting a secret, Andrew Garfield being the most notable case for his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which he denied up until the film’s release.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars in the film as Doctor Stephen Strange alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Benedict Wong as Wong, and more. The film should reveal even more secret cameos since the Multiverse concept opens the door for any character to appear.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes to theaters on May 6.
