Actress Patricia Arquette has recently commented to Deadline regarding the need for Hollywood unions to be aware of the negotiations completed with studios.
The actress has always been vocal about her opinion towards various social issues, as was seen in her 2015 Academy Award speech, where she advocated for wage equality for women all over the United States. Because of this, it comes as no surprise that Arquette should also urge “… all these unions [to] look into the future.”
In her interview with Deadline at the SAG Awards, where she was in attendance for her nomination for her role in Apple TV +’s Severance, Arquette goes on to say, “There is very little transparency really on how many people watch what, it’s very difficult to really even ascertain that kind of data; even unions are little bit in the dark.” This comes as a comment on the expected demand for increased streaming residuals.
She also hints that it would not be surprising if the need for strikes becomes a reality: “The idea of going on strike is pretty frightening to people, but there are moments you need to stand up and figure out what’s going on, I think everyone recognizes that… This is what we all need to do, let’s celebrate these artists and honor them and make sure that they’re making a living.”
Arquette’s involvement in such social issues for actors’ rights brings awareness and momentum to these movements.
