It was recently announced that CBS All Access will be rebranded as Paramount Plus. The streaming service will relaunch this coming March, but already announcements have been made that the streaming service will release several original television shows and original movies.
Screen Rant announced that a prequel movie based on Pet Sematary will be released on Paramount Plus. Pet Sematary is a horror novel written by prolific author Stephen King. The book came out in 1983, and was later adapted into a movie in 1989. This movie received a sequel called Pet Sematary Two which starred Clancy Brown. In 2019 the book received another movie adaptation that starred John Lithgow as the character Jud.
The plot of Pet Sematary follows the Creed family who move to a small town in Maine. The family meet an elderly man named Jud who tells them about a mysterious grave plot near the local pet cemetery, which is called the Pet Sematary, that can revive dead bodies that are buried there. When the 2 year old Gage Creed is run over by a truck his father buries him there. Gage comes back to life, but he comes back wrong. It should be noted that in the 2019 movie version Gage’s older sister Ellie is the one who is killed and revived instead of Gage.
At this time not much is known about this upcoming prequel. It is unknown if this movie is going to be a prequel to the original Pet Sematary movies or the remake or if the prequel will follow a new continuity. In the book the graveyard that revived dead bodies used to belonged to the Mi’kmaq tribe, before “the ground turned sour,” and it is unlikely that Paramount would try to keep this backstory since it is potentially offensive. As of right now the only thing known about this prequel is that Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who produced the 2019 movie, and Jeff Buhler, who wrote the 2019 movie, will be working together again on this project.
