One of the more anticipated titles coming out of Sundance, the James Franco-produced Goat has found a distributor in Paramount Home Video following its premiere at the film festival last week. Paramount will be handling VOD and television releases (with MTV getting the first bite). A theatrical release will be organized by a third party.
The film is based on the memoir by Brad Land about a young man – played by Ben Schnetzer (Pride) – who joins a fraternity with his brother (Nick Jonas, TV’s Scream Queens) following a personal tragedy. He experiences cruel and brutal hazing that challenges his conception of “brotherhood”.
Franco (Pineapple Express) also stars with Virginia Gardner (Project Almanac), Austin Lyon (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), Danny Flaherty (TV’s The Americans), and Jake Picking (The Way Way Back). Andrew Neel (Darkon) directed the feature which he also co-adapted with David Gordon Green (Prince Avalanche) and newcomer Mike Roberts.
Franco’s RabbitBandini Productions backs the film. His company’s other projects planned for this year include Zeroville, The Disaster Artist, and In Dubious Battle, among others.
Paramount Home Video also acquired Clea DuVall‘s directorial debut The Intervention out of the festival. We will have more on Goat as release dates become available.
