Paramount Pictures is currently developing remake of Terms of Endearment with Oprah Winfrey set to star and Lee Daniels to direct, according to TheWrap. This project will reunite the pair who once worked together on Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Although that film did not receive any oscar nominations when it was released in 2013, it received immense praise and raked in $116 million domestically.
The original 1983 Terms of Endearment starred Shirley MacLaine as Aurora Greenway, a smothering mother who deals with the ups and downs of raising her plucky daughter over the span of 30 years. The film won MacLaine an Oscar and earned Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson supporting role nominations. Winfrey will be playing the iconic Aurora Greenway role.
Daniels is currently writing, directing and producing two major television series, Empire and Star. Winfrey just wrapped filming on Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time and will be reuniting with Daniels once again on Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said?
Paramount, Daniels, and Winfrey have yet to make a comment on the news. Check back for updates as they develop.
