Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey has achieved success following its release. It is quickly becoming one of the top movies of the year, not only among horror but among all genres of film.

The film opened with $14 million in theaters in its first week, only surpassed by Captain America: Brave New World. On its second weekend, it achieved $30 million total, officially placing itself in the top 10 films of the year. It also has the potential to climb even higher, with estimates putting it past Wolf Man and Companion at its current trajectory.

Starring Theo James and Tatiana Maslany, The Monkey centers around a toy monkey that plays its drum to summon chaotic deaths for its victims. The premise is as follows:

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.
