According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Boal, best known for The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, will help touch up the script for Sony’s Uncharted. The film is based on the hit video game series about globe trotting treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Seth Gordon is still on board to direct a script originally from David Guggenheim (Safe House). Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven, and Alex Gartner are producing.
The first game in the Uncharted series featured Nathan Drake, descendant of Sir Francis Drake, searching for the golden city of El Dorado. An old rival as well as mutated creatures will all threaten the Indiana Jones-esque adventure as Drake searches the South American jungle for his prize.
Previously, David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) had hoped to direct and write a story about Nathan Drake as an art thief, but that plan fell through possibly due to fan backlash. Sony has put a new creative team together but has yet to find a leading man. Mark Wahlberg and Chris Pratt have both turned down the lead role.
Mark Boal will spend a few weeks going over the script for Uncharted between working with director Katheryn Bigelow, who he worked with on Locker and ZD30, on Triple Frontier, a film about former POW Bowe Bergdahl.
