Fresh after its double Oscar nomination, the Danish film Another Round has been officially set for a June 25th release date in the UK. The film had originally been slated for release November 27th, 2020 in the country but was postponed after the covid-19 pandemic worsened and theaters were closed. Now that cinemas are slowly reopening, which is said to happen May 17th, the film is set to premiere in theaters.
The film is directed by iconic Danish director Thomas Vinterberg (The Celebration) and stars many of his regulars, including Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt), Thomas Bo Larsen (The Hunt, The Celebration), Magnus Millang and Anna Maria Cecilia Bonnevie. Another Round tells the story of four high school teachers who agree to drink alcohol on a daily basis to see how it affects their social and professional lives.
The film is nominated in two categories, International Feature Film and Best Director. Another Round is also competing for four BAFTAs: Film Not in the English Language, Director, Original Screenplay, and Leading Actor for Mikkelsen. It also won four prizes at last year’s European Film Awards.
Deadline spoke to Vinterberg after his nomination, in which he said, “I don’t anticipate anything, don’t count on anything. I was hoping for a nomination for International Feature, but Best Director comes as a huge surprise for me and I’m very moved by both of them.”
