Oscar Isaac‘s dance continues to fill up as Deadline reports the Inside Llewyn Davis star is nearing a closing deal to lead the upcoming docudrama Operation Finale. Director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) is attached to direct the true story from a screenplay written penned by Matthew Orton; the film is set up at MGM. The film, which the trade posits as similar in tone to Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning Argo and Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated Munich, dramatizes the hunt for one of the most hated men in World War II, Nazi General Adolf Eichmann.
If final plans materialize, Isaac will portray Peter Malkin, an Israeli Mossad, who led a charge to track down Eichmann – he was hiding out in Argentina in the 1960s. The goal was to capture Eichmann so he could stand trial for war crimes. Malkin held personal interest in the matter, having experienced the murder of his family at the hands of Nazis. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special), Fred Berger (Oscar nominated for producing the smash musical La La Land) and Jason Spire (Mojave, a film which starred Isaac) are set to serve as producers on the project with Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) set to as an executive producer.
Isaac broke out strong in the past few years, thanks to high-profile and critically admired turns in a diverse slate of films including Inside Llewyn Davis, The Most Violent Year and Ex Machina. His stardom extended further with his turn as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He was last seen – albeit covered in make-up – in last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Coming up for the actor includes roles in the Armenian genocide drama The Promise (also starring Christian Bale). Isaac is also part of the all-star cast of the buzzy Suburbicon, directed by George Clooney.
Later this year, he re-joins the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and next year appears in Annihilation (from Ex Machina director Alex Garland) and appears in the ensemble of the upcoming romance Life Itself.
