Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) is reportedly in talks with Paramount to play the lead in the upcoming political thriller A Foreigner, according to Variety.
The film is based on the 2011 New Yorker article A Murder Foretold by journalist David Grann. The true-life story is the tale of a murdered man who has posthumous tapes disseminated in an effort to quell the violence and corruption rampant in Guatemala at the time of his death.
The project has been long-gestating, with reports that it would be Matt Damon‘s directorial debut going back as far as 2011.
While the deal with Isaac is still in the early stages, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) has reportedly been approached to direct, from a script penned by Chris Terrio (Argo). Steve Zaillian will produce under his Film Rites banner, alongside Steven Rales, Garrett Basch and Mark Roybal.
Isaac will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, followed by X-Men: Apocalypse. Due to his involvement in upcoming episodes of those franchises, it is unclear when A Foreigner might be able to begin production.
