During Netflix’s Tudum livestream event, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth made an appearance to debut the first teaser for Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein. The film has been a lifelong passion project for Del Toro, and the director had been trying to make it for decades before getting it off the ground with Netflix.
Before that, Isaac, who plays the leading role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet for the Tudum event, where he gave more details about the film. He began by discussing his reaction when Del Toro approached him about the film and playing the lead role. “I wasn’t expecting it,” says Isaac, “I was just sitting with him talking, and after a long conversation, he looked up at me and said, ‘I think that you need to be my Victor Frankenstein.’ I still can’t believe it.”
Isaac continued, saying, “[Del Toro] said, ‘I’m going to make you a banquet as an actor,’ and that is what he did every day I would come to set, and I just was so excited and was doing all sorts of beautiful, difficult, expressive things. I just had him as my brother, right there helping me every step of the way.”
Mia Goth described Del Toro’s Frankenstein as an “incredibly epic film” and expanded by saying, “I’ve never been a part of something so big and so grand, but it’s also incredibly emotional and deeply personal. It’s a story that’s been a part of Guillermo’s life since he was a boy and so I definitely think people might be pleasantly surprised by how much heart there is in this movie.”
At the Tudum event, the film’s first teaser was released. The teaser gives an extensive look at Isaac’s Dr. Frankenstein and a brief look at Jacob Elordi’s Frankenstein monster at the end. Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein will be available to stream on Netflix in November. Check out the trailer below.
