Open Road Films has signed on for U.S. distribution rights for the upcoming Liam Neeson action thriller A Willing Patriot, according to Deadline.
The film was presented to buyers at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Still in pre-production, plot details are minimal at best, but we’re promised Neeson as a CIA agent willing to risk his own life (and most likely the lives of others as well) in a game of cat-and-mouse against a deadly terrorist threatening an imminent attack. The film will shoot on location in Tunisia, South Africa and Morocco.
Danish director Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine) helms, from a screenplay by Jason Keller (Mirror Mirror). The project is funded and produced by MadRiver Pictures, with Film 360 and the Hollywood Gang. Keller is also attached as a producer. A 2016 wide release is planned.
Neeson can be seen in this summer’s Entourage and Ted 2. He recently wrapped up filming on Martin Scorcese’s Silence.
