Offers have just went up from 15 to 18 bids on Olivia Wilde’s upcoming script Don’t Worry Darling, a psychological thriller about 1950s housewife. According to Deadline, Wilde is set to direct and star in the film when it enters production.
Apparently studios and streamers are jumping at the opportunity to distribute this movie, as Netflix, Legendary 101 Studios, FilmNation, MGM, Village Roadshow Pictures, Apple, and Blumhouse have all put down offers for Wilde’s vision and its reasonable budget. Although Wilde is currently off filming Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell starring Paul Walter Hauser, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, and Jon Hamm, she is expected to receive final offers this weekend and come to a decision by early next week.
The original script for Don’t Worry Darling was written by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, but will be rewritten by Wilde’s frequent collaborator Katie Silberman to better accommodate her direction. Wilde and Silberman first worked together on the former’s directorial debut- 2019’s critically acclaimed coming of age comedy Booksmart– with Silberman completing the film’s final draft. Most recently, they sold their untitled holiday comedy script to Universal after an intense bidding battle with other studios.
Wilde and Silberman, along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, will produce the film and Twilight’s director Catherine Hardwicke is set to executive produce.
