In the 2019 Fox Searchlight film The Aftermath, Keira Knightley commands attention with her stunning performance. Based on the novel of the same name by Rhidian Brook, director James Kent seems to capture all of the chaos, turmoil, and heartache of a time after war.
Knightley plays Rachel Morgan, the wife of a British colonel sent to live in Hamburg, Germany. The year is 1946 as British officers were sent all over Germany to reconstruct damages from the toils of war. After being reunited with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), Rachel learns that the home that they are to be staying in is already occupied by German widower named Stefan (Alexander Skarsgård) and his daughter.
During the trailer, the audience notices the fearful and awkward position Rachel must deal with while living in the same home as the current occupants and a possible war criminal. After some time, and a stint away from home on the part of her husband, Rachel falls into the arms of another man… Stefan. By the end of the trailer, it looks as if Rachel and Stefan have found love and happiness, only for the pair to likely be torn apart by the disorder that surrounds them.
The Aftermath looks to be a highly emotional film of hostility, passion and betrayal. Check out the trailer below and look for The Aftermath in theaters April 26 2019.
