A film reboot of an odd nature compared to the iterations that came before it has received its official trailer. The Hellboy reboot directed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim and Sasha Lane has had a lot of doubt as well as anticipation surrounding it especially since there has been little footage or images of the film shown. Now we have our first true look at this upcoming movie.
This trailer easily establishes a few things. One of those is that this is going to be a very different film from the previous two written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Fans of those two, such as myself, might not find too much solace in this one. This version of Hellboy, played by Harbour is a lot lighter in character tones than Ron Perlman’s portrayal, with him being more of a bumbling imbecile rather than a deeply regarded character.
Hellboy will focus a lot more on the humor of the situations rather than the story and it will be much more violent with its R-rating as seen in the trailer with blood splattering from soldiers being shot. We see Hellboy being led into the secret lair of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense where he gets the mission of defending Earth and mankind from an evil sorceress. There is not much context that comes with the footage shown of the action sequences as well as Hellboy’s interactions with other people, but it is our first viewing.
The film is said to be more focused on studying the character of Hellboy rather than the story presented in the previous films with a much grittier nature attached to its more adult themes and violence.
Hellboy will be distributed by Summit Entertainment when it releases in the US on April 12 of next year and the trailer can be checked out below.
