Official Trailer for Blake Lively’s ‘The Rhythm Section’ Released

The upcoming 2020 British-American action drama The Rhythm Section is expected to hit U.S. theaters on January 31. The film is based on novel by Mark Burnell and directed by Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale), giving off the vibe of a female James Bond entry.

Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) stars as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary British woman whose family is killed in plane crash three years ago. At the beginning of the trailer, Stephanie reveals the faces of her family, no longer alive from the tragedy. She discovers that the crash was not an accident and vows to “kill every last one of them,” seeking revenge on those responsible for what happened. We then see her train with Jude Law‘s character at a shooting range, which he reveals to be the only “easy part.” Immediately in the next shot, Stephanie is pointing a gun at an oblivious character’s head.

Stephanie sports different wigs to disguise herself as an assassin, as fast montages of intense car chases and fighting off enemies ensue. Sterling K. Brown also stars in the film, explaining to Stephanie that “a lot of people think you’re dead.” As Stephanie finds herself in the midst of the explosions and chaos, a voice in her head reminds her of the rhythm she must bear: “Think of your heart as the drums. Your breathing as the bass.”

The Rhythm Section‘s teaser doesn’t reveal where Stephanie is headed, or specifically who she is scouting for, allowing the audience to follow the female spy along the wild adventure. Watch the full trailer below:
