The sequel to 2014’s John Wick has been given an official title and a release date. Lionsgate will release the film, John Wick: Chapter 2, on February 10, 2017.
After a bit of an issue with directorial duties, Chad Stahelski was finally brought back on board to direct the sequel about the retired assassin looking to avenge the death of his dog. Stahelski co-directed the first John Wick entry with David Leitch. Keanu Reeves returns in the titular role as the revenge seeking former hitman. Ian McShane (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the franchise, portraying a mysterious hotel owner. Also joining the cast is Common (Suicide Squad) as the main antagonist.
Principal photography on the film is set to begin this week. John Wick: Chapter 2 is set to open the same weekend as Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter in the E.L. James trilogy, the animated spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie and the Idris Elba-headlined The Mountains Between Us.
The first John Wick earned $86 million in worldwide ticket sales.
