Since her break into stardom in the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace has quickly migrated over to Hollywood, becoming one of the most diverse and (oftentimes) underrated actresses. She played the lead role in Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus back in 2012, and also has chosen many unique and peculiar indie films along the way. She’s already attached to a number of projects for the next few years, and has now added another one to the list.
Variety reports that Rapace will star in the science-fiction thriller Boy. The script, which was put on the Black List in 2015, was written by Mattson Tomlin, and follows a boy that discovers he has extraordinary abilities but changes cities and identities in order to keep them under wraps from public eye. He is eventually found out by a conservative neighborhood and blamed for a recent tragic event, which forces the boy and his mother to go on the run. They are able to find refuge with an underground rebellion group.
Boy will be helmed by Danish director Jonas Arnby, with Motion Picture Capital financing the project. It sounds like it will make for a thrilling film, especially with someone like Rapace attached. It seems more than likely that she will play the role of the mother, but that has not yet been specified. Production is set to begin to begin in August, so look for Boy sometime in late 2017.
