Noah Baumbach‘s follow up to Marriage Story is in the works at Netflix. Entitled White Noise, the film will be Baumbach’s first adaptation and is based on the 1985 novel White Noise, by Don DeLillo. The film is set to star Adam Driver as professor focused on pioneering the field of Hitler studies. Greta Gerwig, writer, director, and long-time partner of Baumbach will star opposite of Driver.
White Noise is sure to be a crowd pleaser similar to Marriage Story. Netflix clearly wants to recreate the success of that film. A report came out late in December that this film will be family drama between siblings. It is unclear if this report was on another project or this one, but as of now, this will be an adaptation of the 1985 novel. The novel goes on a few tangents to say the least, but was really what put writer Don DeLillo on the map, besides that maybe check out the book for plot details.
Aside from this, Baumbach and Gerwig are writing a script for Barbie starring Margot Robbie with Gerwig attached to direct. The film is still in early stages of production, but it is exciting to see a writing couple work together so well. Gerwig has focused on writing and directing the last few years, making Lady Bird and Little Women. White Noise will be her first feature live action credit since 20th Century Women in 2016.
Adam Driver has been in just about every movie ever made since 2015. After wrapping Kylo Ren’s character arc a year ago, Driver is in various stages of production for a plethora of films. Including Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel a film that re-teams wicked writer best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for the first time since their Good Will Hunting script.
