With the ongoing pandemic still rampant even in 2021, there’s still a strong uncertainty that things will be better for theaters to release major blockbusters as soon as they initially expected. This means that many theatrical films are expected to be delayed yet again if not sent to streaming. This includes the highly anticipated installment in the long running James Bond franchise, as No Time To Die is rumored to be delayed to Fall of 2021.
This news came from Dutch exhibitor Carlo Lambregts, who stated that he heard rumors that the film will move from its April 2nd release date to November. The delay will not just be because of the situation with the USA in regards to the pandemic, but also due to how unstable the pandemic in the United Kingdom as well. Makes sense for the delay in that regard consider that not only is the USA a key market for films, but for 007 in particularly, the UK is also a huge market for the property. Therefore MGM wants Bond’s biggest fans to be able to witness the film in theaters the safest way possible.
Some are curious to why there hasn’t been plans to put No Time to Die on streaming, especially with Disney and Warner Bros expecting to release some of their high profile films simultaneously on streaming and theaters at the moment. The reason is partially due to MGM screening the movie for streaming services and offer to sell the rights to stream for about $600 million. A fairly hefty price but considering how big of a film it is, it’ll be a tough sell. Regardless, whether it ends up on streaming or theaters, fans may still have to wait a bit longer to witness Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond.
