With nearly every single franchise getting the Marvel treatment, of having multiple films and characters cross over with one another, some may feel it’s destined for Disney to do the same with their current slate of Live-Action Fairy Tales. It is fair to make the assumption due to how Disney for decades had made many of their characters interact with one another in countless other projects. Whether it be promotional material for upcoming films, TV Shows like House of Mouse, Video Games like Kingdom Hearts or just recently with Ralph Breaks the Internet having a big Disney Princess showcase, there is an appeal for having characters like Belle and Ariel interact with one another.
However, Disney Production Chief, Sean Bailey has stated to The Hollywood Reporter that there are no current plans to create a crossover film with the live action interpretations of these characters. Bailey mentioned the appeal of them interconnecting by stating, “Just as Marvel has Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, maybe Belle, Cinderella, Mowgli and Simba are our superheroes.” Shortly followed up with that statement by saying, “We’re not gonna interconnect them in a universe anytime soon, I promise, Simba isn’t in Jungle Cruise”.
Some fans may feel disappointed by them not being connected as given the box office of movies Jungle Book and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, it is clear there is a huge market for these movies and having a gigantic crossover with them in the vain of The Avengers could be a guaranteed money maker for Disney. However, also given some of the backlash live-action Disney remakes have, especially for die hard animation fans who feel the remakes are pointless cash grabs, then it might be for the better that a cinematic universe for Disney Fairy Tale movies doesn’t exist. Fans might be just comfortable with the crossovers of Disney Princesses in promotional material and movies like, Ralph Breaks The Internet and given the appeal the original animated characters still have today, Disney will certainly not stop with creating unique ways of having these characters interact in Animation.
