In a post to X, that currently sits at 232k likes, it was announced that Fox McCloud will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Fans of the properties will recognize the character from the Star Fox and Super Smash Bros. games, with rumors previously swirling about the character appearing in the film.
Fox’s original debut for Nintendo came in 1993 with the Star Fox action and adventure video game. Since then, the character has appeared in titles Star Fox 64, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox: Assault, Star Fox: Command, and Star Fox 2, which was released in 2017. The fighting game series Super Smash Bros. is at the heart of this crossover, as Fox has appeared in all 5 installments in the series. The game series brought together characters from a variety of Nintendo properties. Variety points out that Fox has appeared alongside Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi in every iteration of the game series. Fox’s companion Falcon Lombardi first appeared in the second game, Super Smash Bros. Melee, while villain Wolf O’Donnell appeared in the third game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
There is already plenty of speculation that Illumination and Nintendo have the intent of building an expansive cinematic universe, with all paths leading towards a Super Smash Bros. film. Captain Olimar from the Pikmin game series is another character teased in trailers for the upcoming film, continuing to feed into the rumors. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to smash into theaters on April 1.
