Come on and slam if you want to jam!
Nike is welcoming you back to the Space Jam with the reveal of the new team jerseys for the upcoming movie Space Jam 2. Official pictures of the new uniforms were released earlier this week, and some of them can be viewed on Twitter. The photos reveal updated uniforms of both the Tune Squad and MonStars, and many sneaker collectors should be excited to learn from Sneaker News that Nike is also planning to release some sneakers in honor of the film. According to CBSsports, the new uniforms are a lot different than the ones that appeared in the original Space Jam.

The original Space Jam movie saw the classic Loony Tunes characters recruit basketball superstar Micheal Jordan to help them win a basketball game against a group of aliens who plan to capture and enslave Bug Bunny and friends. Despite receiving mixed reception when it first came out, Space Jam has become a meme classic and source of nostalgia for many people who grew up in the 90’s. The movie is especially beloved for its soundtrack, which featured R. Kelly’s I Believe I Can Fly and the Space Jam theme song by Quad City DJ’s.
According to MovieWeb, these new photos hint that both the TuneSquad and MonStars will be returning for Space Jam 2, but not much is known about the movie’s plot. We do know that LeBron James will take over for Jordan as the live-action basketball star and the Loony Tune characters will be back, though it’s not clear on who will provide their voices. Malcolm D. Lee, who directed Girls Trip, is supposed to be directing Space Jam 2, and the movie is set for a summer 2021 release.
Perhaps more details about Space Jam 2 will be released soon. Maybe Warner Brothers will post an update on the official Space Jam website but, considering how it’s remained unchanged since the 90’s, that seems rather unlikely.
