‘Night House’ Director David Bruckner To Helm ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot

Spyglass Media‘s reboot of the 1980s cult horror hit Hellraiser has found its writing and directing team. with David Bruckner confirmed to direct the horror picture reimagining. Hellraiser‘s script was penned by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. David Goyer, who also produced Night House, is writing the story for this new take the franchise that introduced moviegoers to the iconic Pinhead.

Bruckner helmed Night Housea horror thriller picture that made its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year. The movie starred Rebecca Hall, and reportedly was in a $12 million deal from Searchlight to pick up worldwide rights. He has also been credited for sections of the horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, and directed sci-fi film The Signal. 

The Hellraiser franchise quickly garnered a huge cult status since its original 1987 release, spawning ten films, graphic novels, and merchandise across three decades. The original movie was based on Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart and followed the resurrection of Frank, who opens a door to a whole new, horrific dimension only to see his body destroyed by the Cenobites, creatures from Hell dedicated to torture. The most notable of them is the sadistic leader Pinhead, who quickly became the face of Hellraiser. Years later, Frank’s brother Larry and his wife Julia move into his late mother’s abandoned house, where an accident triggers Frank’s resurrection the return of the Cenobites, causing hell to literally break loose.

Details about the plot of the reboot has not been revealed yet, though Spyglass reassured audiences that it will be “loyal, yet evolved.”
