Nicole Kidman has signed on to play the title character in the upcoming thriller Silent Wife. The film, to be directed by Adrian Lyne, is based on A.S.A. Harrison’s bestselling novel. The film centers on Jodi (Kidman), a dutiful spouse attempting to hold together her marriage, only to discover her husband is leaving her for a much younger woman. In retaliation, Jodi begins to arrange her unfaithful husband’s murder.
The film isn’t director Lyne’s first foray into the exploration of infidelity and betrayal by any means, having helmed 2002’s Unfaithful, 1993′s Indecent Proposal and the classic 1987 bunny-boiler Fatal Attraction. And it won’t be the first time Kidman has toyed with murder, having memorably portrayed a TV personality who will stop at nothing for success in Gus Van Sant‘s 1995 black comedy To Die For.
Kidman was recently seen in Grace of Monaco and next toplines the biopic Queen of the Desert, which has its US premiere at next month’s AFI Festival.
Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) is penning the adaptation of Harrison’s novel.
Lyne and Kidman will share producer’s duties, along with Kidman’s partner in Blossom Films Per Saari, and Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan for their Mazur/Kaplan Company. FilmNation will be shopping the project to buyers at the American Film Market.
