If you have ever gotten a “free day” in history class and your teacher is pretty cool, then you’ve probably been shown National Treasure, an Indiana Jones-type adventure movie where Nicolas Cage uses American history to find clues that uncover grand treasures left by the founding fathers. When it first came out, National Treasure was a huge success, and a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was quickly made in response. Unfortunately Book of Secrets was not as well-liked and plans for a third entry were put aside.
However according to Cinema Blend there has been some recent discussion surrounding a possible third National Treasure movie, and that Cage will be returning for it. Apparently several attempts have been made over the years to get this sequel off the ground, but the movie kept getting delayed for various reasons. Jon Turteltaub, the director of the first two movies, explained that Disney was rather hesitant to make another movie because they wanted to focus on other projects that felt more profitable .
Perhaps Disney is right to hesitate. After all the last National Treasure movie came out more than 10 years ago and, while fun, is not exactly mainstream right now. However, despite all the delays there is still interest in a sequel after that much time. But for now, the world will just have to enjoy America’s greatest treasure of them all: Nicolas Cage!
