Nicola Peltz, most known for her roles in The Last Airbender, Bates Motel, and Transformers: Age of Extinction, will make her debut as a writer, director, and producer in Lola James, according to Deadline. The film will also be co-directed by The Florida Project stand-out Bria Vinaite, this will also be her directorial debut. Sources are unclear if Vinaite has a role in the film, but Peltz will be the star. Lola James will also star Oscar-Nominated actor Virginia Madsen.
The story is set in 2002 and revolves around 19-year old Lola James trying to help her brother. It seems like an interesting coming of age story similar to Lady Bird or even The Florida Project.
Though the best part of this story is a young actor being able to create and produce a film. Similar to Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut with Creed III or how Greta Gerwig blasted onto the scene with Lady Bird, an actor turned director is always a pleasant sight to see.
While Peltz certainly has been in many big-budgeted films, an indie movie, written by her, could shift her career in an exciting new direction. All actors or writers or directors or producers should try as many things as possible throughout there career, and Petlz as well as Vinaite are doing exactly that.
There is no set release or production date for Lola James, though rumors are that production has already began in Los Angeles.
