Nicholas Hoult Considered A Frontrunner For ‘Superman: Legacy’

For the last several weeks, several actors have been submitting audition tapes for the roles of Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy

For the role of Clark Kent, AKA Superman, the following actors have been considered: Nicholas Hoult (X-Men), David Corenswet (The Politician), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria), and Andrew Richardson (The Independent).

As for the role of Lois Lane, sources from Deadline say Emma Mackey (Emily), Rachel Brosnahan (Spies in Disguise), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving are among the actresses considered.

The last tests were submitted on May 4, according to Deadline, and insiders with the talent involved have been told the plan is for Gunn to watch every audition tape. Gunn is eyeing some A-list actors he’s worked with in the past for the role of Lex Luthor. Sources from Deadline also state there’s been testing for a role called “Apex” which DC comic readers may recognize to possibly be Apex Lex Luthor, another version of Lex Luthor from the multiverse.

Gunn previously spoke on the “firing” of Henry Cavil as Superman. According to Gunn, they didn’t fire Henry, rather he was never cast. He was in a cameo, “and that was the end of his story.” People made assumptions which weren’t true, Gunn said.

“For me, for this story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry. He’s a great guy. I think he’s gotten dicked around by a lot of people, including former regimes of this company. But this Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.”

Superman Legacy is set to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
