Nicholas Hoult and Rooney Mara have signed on to join the upcoming romance The Discovery. The film will be directed by The One I Love director, Charlie McDowell.
The film will focus on the discovery of afterlife, and the ensuing love story between the discoverer’s son, played by Hoult, and a woman he falls in love with. The script will be written by director McDowell and Justin Laden.
Hoult and Mara’s stars have risen to new heights over the past couple years. Hoult’s career really took off when he starred as Beast in X-Men: First Class. Starring in the subsequent sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past and most recently as Nux in George Miller‘s revered Mad Max: Fury Road, he shows no signs of slowing down. He can next be seen in Kill Your Friends in November and Equals, which is out this December.
Playing the title role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher‘s adaptation of the best selling novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, on the heels of being a part of Fincher’s critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated film The Social Network, earned Mara a nomination for Best Actress. She hasn’t looked back ever since. Most recently she starred in the box office bomb Pan, co-starring Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund. She can next be seen in the upcoming lesbian love story, Carol, co-starring Cate Blanchett, for which she earned Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival.
The project will be produced by Alex Orlovsky and James D. Stern.
Filming is expected to begin January in Rhode Island.
