Netflix held a Next On Netflix event on Wednesday night, showing a special look at a wide range of their upcoming projects. These include films with release dates in the near future and some with no finalized date as of yet.
One of the most noteworthy spotlights was for Jerry Seinfeld’s upcoming film Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. Following Post and Kellogg’s back-and-forth cereal battle of the 1960’s. The film stars Melissa McCarthy and Jim Gaffigan alongside Seinfeld.
Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story will mark Seinfeld’s first endeavor as a director. Netflix also stated that the film is set to come out May 3rd, 2024.
During the event, it was also confirmed that Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp, an unannounced animated feature following the titular cultural icon, has a release date of April 12th, 2024.
Some films were able to have some images from production shown off during the presentation, with the bulk of announcements coming from Bela Bajaria, the chief content officer for Netflix. The films that did receive this spotlight included Irish Wish, Mother Of The Bride, and Rebel Moon- Part Two: The Scargiver.
Also revealed was an August 16th release date for the Mark Wahlberg led The Union, in which he plays a construction worker, who gets pulled into a spy plot by his highschool girlfriend, played by co-star Halle Berry. Similarly, as Hollywood Reporter points out, the reveal of this film comes after the cancellation of The Mothership, a sci-fi film led by Berry that was already near completion. Netflix decided not to go forward with the reshoots that the film needed.
