Weta Digital is a digital effects company based in New Zealand. The company was founded in the 90’s by Peter Jackson. The company worked on the special effects of Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies and the recent Game of Thrones television series as well as many other major movies and television programs.
According to Cartoon Brew Weta Digital announced their plans to open offices in the United States. Specifically the new offices will be located in the California cities of San Francisco and of course Los Angeles. The reason for Weta Digital’s decision to open offices in California is because the company wants to expand their business, and possibly make content for streamers.
Weta Digital also announced that the company added three new board members. The new board members are Tom Staggs, Jeff Huber, and Ken Kamins. All three men have extensive experience either in the entertainment or tech industries. Staggs worked with The Walt Disney Company as chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide. Huber was an executive at Google. Kamis is founder and CEO of Key Creatives, and he has served as an executive producer on several movies.
