‘Joker,’ the origin story for DC’s infamous comic book villain will now be screened at the annual New York Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The preview will be followed by a Q & A with Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix alongside director Todd Phillips and the creative team behind the film. By the time of the film’s screening at this festival, ‘Joker’ will have already played at the Venice Film Festival and at its premiere in Toronto.
Other films added to the festival’s lineup include Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club Encore, an extended version of his 1984 film which details the lives of those who visited the Harlem nightclub and the mob lifestyle tied to its venue. Coppola will also be in attendance at the festival and will participate in a Q & A afterwards.
Roee Messinger’s American Trial: The Eric Garner Story will also have its world premiere at the festival. The film centers around a fictional, unscripted trial for the death of Eric Garner involving a real defense lawyer, real witnesses, and Garner’s widow Esaw Snipes. The screening event is free to the public and will include a panel with the director.
The NYFF will take place in Lincoln Center from September 28 to October 14.
