Marvel has brought on Stephany Folsom (TV’s Ds2dio) to write the script for Thor: Ragnarok according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Folsom is the third writer to work on the script for the third Thor film. This will be her first time working on a feature. Folsom is one of the latest female writers brought on to Marvel’s projects. Nicole Perlman has worked on a number of scripts and treatments for Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Widow, and Captain Marvel. Craig Kyle (TV’s X-Men Evolution) and Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World) are also credited as working on the script for the Thor sequel. Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is directing.
Thor: Ragnarok is reportedly one of the most important films in Marvel’s Phase 3. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the norse god broke away from the superhero team to explore a vision he received from Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen, Godzilla) before she eventually joined the team. After Avengers’ release, director Joss Whedon said higher ups asked him to include Thor’s vision quest in the film because it tied into later films. Folsom will likely have to make sure those scenes pay off.
Chris Hemsworth (In the Heart of the Sea) will return to the role along with Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak). Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight) will also reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Natalie Portman (Jane Got a Gun), who starred in Thor‘s first two films, is missing from the current cast list. After starring in the first film, Portman was reportedly unhappy with Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) leaving the second film’s director’s chair. This leaves it very possible that she won’t return for the third film in the series.
Thor: Ragnarok is set to release November 3, 2017. In the meantime, Captain America: Civil War is set to release May 6, 2016. Marvel just released the first trailer for Civil War which reunites a number of the Marvel heroes.
