Lately, many productions have been up in flames for a variety of reasons. Some films have had quick recasts (All The Money In The World) while other productions were outright cancelled or are in search of new actor (House of Cards, I Love You Daddy). A completely unexpected film has disappeared from the release schedule of a large studio. Extinction, a Universal film that was to be released next year in January, has mysteriously been pulled from Universal’s release schedule, according to multiple sources.
Extinction was to star Lizzy Caplan (The Interview, Mean Girls), Mike Colter (Luke Cage, Zero Dark Thirty), Michael Peña (The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Martian), and Emma Booth (Glitch, Once Upon Time). There, the characters navigate a world that is being attacked by aliens and must fight back against their new extraterrestrial enemies. The film was directed by Ben Young, who released Hounds of Love, also starring Booth.
What makes the removal from release much more interesting is that the film had no promotional material released even though the movie was supposed to hit theaters within the next two months. Universal has yet to give a reason as to why the film was pulled, but it could be that the film was not finished in time or that the film may be going through some reshoots for scenes.
