As the summer season winds down, most movie studios are setting the stage for Oscar-bait films and end-of-year blockbusters. One of those blockbusters is sure to be Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it seems that the first wave of media blitz is upon us.
In an international TV spot, we get a small but important look at new footage from the upcoming movie. The opening scene reveals a rally of troops for the First Order that brings to mind the rallies held by the Nazi regime in Germany.
In the opening image above, you can see the large gathering of storm troopers. On the far right you can make out TIE fighters, as well as slightly refined AT-AT’s from The Empire Strikes Back fame.
Other footage in the trailer is mostly footage that we have already seem in past trailers. Highlighted in this trailer is Kylo Ren’s (protrayed by Adam Driver) crossguard lightsaber, which incited loud feedback from fans after the first trailer was released.
The new Star Wars film is being directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and brings back Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford form the original trilogy along with a plethora of new faces including Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina) and Gwendoline Christie (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18.
