A new trailer for Robert Eggers’s Werwulf has been released. This new trailer for Werwulf shows the filmmaker back in full gothic-horror territory, with a muddy medieval Europe setting and plenty of body-horror imagery. The film is the director’s follow-up to 2024’s Nosferatu, which grossed $180 million worldwide and earned four Oscar nominations.
The story, as shown in this new trailer, is set in 13th-century England and follows Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a man who transforms into a monstrous creature. Also starring are Lily-Rose Depp as Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character’s wife and Willem Dafoe as a knight tasked with ridding the local English countryside of wolves. The film is notable for utilizing period-appropriate language, once again showcasing Eggers’s emphasis on extreme period accuracy in all of his films.
Robert Eggers directs the film from a script he co-wrote with Sjón, as he did for 2022’s The Northman. Producers include Eggers, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Garrett Bird, and Sjón. Executive Producers include Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Bernard Bellew.
Footage for the film was first shown in April at Universal’s CinemaCon presentation of upcoming films, where it was billed as Robert Eggers’s “most terrifying motion picture yet.”
Werwulf will be released in theaters by Focus Features on Christmas Day this year. The new trailer can be viewed below:
