A new look has been given to acclaimed director Paul Schrader’s newest feature. His new work, which he wrote and directed, is dubbed Oh, Canada.
Oh, Canada finds an old man with little time left in his life reflecting on everything that he encountered in his years before. He takes one final opportunity to tell his entire life story, leaving out no details of his past deeds.
Some of Schrader’s other works include First Reformed, Master Gardener, and The Card Counter. On top of writing and directing his films, he also served as a writer on Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, among many others.
While Schrader wrote the screenplay for the film, it’s actually based on a book from Russell Banks dubbed Forgone. Deadline points out that this isn’t the first time Schrader has adapted a book from Banks either, as a previous film of, Affliction, was based off of another Banks novel.
Deadline also noted that the leading talent for Oh, Canada, Richard Gere, has worked with Schrader before on one of his earlier films. 1980’s American Gigolo saw the two unite, as Gere played an escort who gets wrapped up in a series of events that forces him to question his own security.
The rest of the Oh, Canada cast is rounded out by Uma Thurman, Jacob Elordi, Michael Imperioli, and Caroline Dhavernas.
No release date for the film has been set yet. Check out the trailer for Oh, Canada below.
