The next installment in the V/H/S series, V/H/S/85, will make its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas next month and has released its teaser trailer in anticipation. Alongside the festival premiere, it will also debut on streaming service Shudder in October of this year.
Whereas the last two films took place in the 90s, the newest addition is set in 1985. As ComicBook.com reports, the sequel is described as “an ominous mixtape blends never before seen snuff footage with nightmarish newscasts and disturbing home video to create a surreal, analog mashup of the forgotten ’80s.”
Among those contributing to the new installment are Scott Derrickson, David Bruckner, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani, and Mike P. Nelson. Much like previous films in the series, this one could also prove to be good starting point for aspiring filmmakers. In the past, established directors such as Adam Wingard and Ti West got their start in previous V/H/S films.
“Since its inception, the V/H/S franchise has been a showcase for both established and emerging horror filmmakers to terrify audiences with innovative takes on the found footage genre,” the general manager of Shudder, Craig Engler, had said on the film when it was announced in 2022. “Following the success of last year’s hit V/H/S/94 and this year’s upcoming V/H/S/99, we are totally stoked to take Shudder members back to 1985 with a wicked new collection of scares from some of the most radical horror directors working today.”
