The most recent trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out has been released, and it sheds a little more light on the plot and world of director Pete Docter’s (Up) third feature film. While the last trailer gave us a hint of the premise through a single conflict during family dinner, this time we’re given a clearer idea of the world within a little girl’s head, inhabited by Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
After an accident leaves Joy and Sadness stranded from “headquarters” and seemingly in the distant reaches of their young proprietor’s subconscious, the two must find a way to venture back and restore their owner’s emotional state, all while she’s dealing with the typical problems of growing up in her own world. Inside Out shares the familiar theme of two central characters embarking on an adventure to, in some way, restore balance to the world and their lives. The journey of Joy and Sadness across their little girl’s consciousness shares similarities to Woody and Buzz trying to find their way back to Andy’s room in Toy Story, or Darcy and Marlin traversing through the ocean to rescue Nemo in Finding Nemo.
Inside Out is Docter’s first feature since his Oscar-winning Up, and is Pixar’s first release since 2013’s Monsters University, as well as their first original feature since 2012’s Brave. It will be released on June 19th.
