Paloma Schneideman’s Sundance directorial debut, Big Girls Don’t Cry, receives a trailer exclusively on Collider. The trailer begins with a look at Sid, played by Ani Palmer in her first role on screen, and her life for one summer break.

The trailer shows a montage of people diving in lakes and pools and Sid meeting Freya, played by Rain Spencer (The Summer I turned Pretty). What follows is clips of Sid trying to fit in with Freya and her group of friends and getting into arguments with her dad, played by Noah Taylor (Game of Thrones). In an interview with Sundance, Schneiderman said,

Films have always helped me to understand myself, way more than — growing up in rural New Zealand — my community could, because we just weren’t having those kinds of conversations. … I’m in love with the coming of age genre. … Every time a film is made like that, the dialog’s open and the shame’s distilled, and we feel more comfortable speaking. Speaking is healing, and I had been given that by so many films that were so formative to me that I’d love to pass on that legacy and give that back.
