New Trailer For ‘Antebellum’ Drops Online

Antebellum, starring Janelle Monáe and produced by the same people who brought you Get Out and Us, was originally scheduled for release in April, but like many films, has been pushed by the coronavirus pandemic. However, this week, a new trailer was released online for curious fans.

Information about Antebellum has been scarce, with the film’s creators releasing only a tidbit of information. It revolves around a successful author (Monáe) who finds herself trapped a nightmarish reality, and must find a way to break free from the horrors at hand. The new trailers maintains that air of mystery, but one can deduce that Antebellum is about a modern day black woman who finds herself in the shoes of an American slave during the Civil War era. We can also infer some kind of rebellion on the part of Monáe’s character, Veronica Henley, though how she goes from the present to the 1860’s is still a mystery. Maybe time travel, artificial simulation or hallucinations?

Along with Monáe, the cast for Antebellum consists of Marque Richardson, Eric Lange, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, and several others. Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (17 Seventeen and Against the Wall) are credited as directors, writers, and producers. The currently projected release date for the film is August 21, 2020.

Catherine Krueger: Catherine, or "Ren" as she is called by her friends, is 23 years old and has recently graduated from Sam Houston State University, earning a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Film and TV Production. She hopes to one day direct and produce her own films. In her spare time she writes scripts and shoots videos for her YouTube channel.
