HBO dropped a new trailer for the upcoming Tony Hawk documentary titled Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off. The trailer begins by showing Hawk failing a trick and falling on the ground. Later in the trailer, Hawk is seen picking himself up and grabbing the skateboard while a voiceover from Hawk says, “I was truly alone, and I had to go make a change.” Some footage shown in the trailer is from Hawk competing in skateboarding competitions and footage of Hawk as a child. The film will focus on how fame affected Hawk and how his passion for skateboarding made him the most iconic name in the sport.
The documentary will feature interviews from Hawk himself, which will give the audience a direct window into the story from Hawk’s perspective. The documentary will not only focus on Hawk’s skateboarding career but also on Hawk’s relationship with his family and friends. Hawk states, “I had not figured out how to be a husband and father because I didn’t know how to live in my own skin.” Hawk is now 53 years old and continues to skateboard.
Sam Jones directed the documentary. Other documentaries directing credits from Jones include Miles to Go Before I Sleep and I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.
Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off will premiere simultaneously on HBO and HBO Max on April 5th.
