A new sexual assault allegation has surfaced against director Bryan Singer hot on the heels of his sudden removal from Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. According to TMZ, Singer is being sued by Cesar Sanchez-Guzman for allegedly taking him somewhere more secluded in a party and then both raping him and forcing him to engage with oral sex. At the time, Guzman was only seventeen years old. The incident occurred in 2003 in the Seattle area during a yacht party. Attendees were predominately young (even underage) gay men.
After the alleged assault, Singer told Guzman that “he was a powerful Hollywood producer and he could help Guzman get into acting as long as he kept silent.” For fear of damaging his career, Guzman remained quiet for years.
Now, Singer staunchly denies the allegations.
Once news broke that Singer was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody, many assumed that the director was actually removed from the film due to assault allegations (Singer has been accused of assault in the past). In fact, actress Jessica Chastain called out Singer on Twitter only a month before.
However, Fox maintains that Singer was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody due his “unexpected unavailability” and Rami Malek’s complaints about the director’s unprofessionalism. In light of recent news, it’s unclear if Fox, in fact, severed their relationship with Singer to avoid greater controversy.
Bohemian Rhapsody, now being helmed by Dexter Fletcher, is set to hit theaters on December 25.
