Since its premiere at SXSW back in March, Short Term 12 has been dominating the audience awards in the film festival circuit. After the release of the trailer and first posters in June, audience anticipation for the film continues to grow with the debut of a new poster.
As seen above, the print features a block-cut illustration of Grace, a caregiver to at-risk teens played by Brie Larson, as she tries to comfort one of her troubled kids at the foster care facility where she works. Along with the restrained two-toned image, the poster additionally includes recent quotes from reviews of critics who are almost universally lauding the picture.
Also prominently displayed are those little film festival laurel leaf icons summing up the film’s recent successes. In addition to winning the the Grand Jury and Audience Awards at SXSW, the film has gone on to captured the Audience Award for best narrative feature at the 2013 LA Film Festival. Short Term 12 was also part of the closing night at New York’s BAM Cinemafest.
These poster drops just a few weeks after it was reported that Demarest Films and joined Cinedigm in a distribution partnership to release the film in the domestic market on August 23. Short Term 12 will then reach ancillary markets in early 2014. The film is written and directed by Destin Cretton (I Am Not a Hipster). John Gallagher, Jr., Rami Malek, and Keith Stanfield also star.
